Did you know that you can get press for your special sales? Holiday gift guides are not the only way to get product recognition during the holiday season. Consider all the holidays when you are pitching hard products during the holiday. That’s right, now that affiliate programs are rampant among the media, they are always looking for sales to feature, especially since Amazon makes it so lucrative. Brands with Amazon affiliates have a leg up with media outlets like Business Insider, Wirecutter, USA Today just to name a few.
However, you don’t HAVE to have an Amazon account. You can leverage your own affiliate marketing programs to pitch to journalists. Here are five things you should consider when pitching your holiday sales to the media.
-
Note your sale in the subject line along with what kind of gift/item the product is.
-
Include why your product is awesome and who for. Name all the types of audiences you feel apply.
-
Make sure to include both the sale and retail price.
-
Include the links to the product wherever it lives online and mention if it’s in retail.
-
Provide both hero (product only) and lifestyle (product being used) images for them to include.
Now get to work. You’ll want to submit your sale in advance, as reporters are writing all of these pieces much earlier than when they are published. After they are submitted, follow up to see if they need a sample and then monitor the outlet/reporter’s stories patiently. Holiday gift guides are prime time right now, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday, Christmas, After Christmas, Boxing day Kwanzaa, Hannukah and even New Year’s.
Pro Tip: Any easy way to identify these reporters is to Google “Deals reporters”. Good luck!
